Composite Materials

The Project
The City of Clearwater needed a boardwalk that could handle Florida's coastal conditions — salt air, high UV exposure, heavy year-round foot traffic, and the long-term maintenance burden that comes with managing public infrastructure. Traditional timber decking in that environment means regular sealing, board replacement, and ongoing finish upkeep. The composite system eliminates all of that.
The structure uses Southern Yellow Pine framing throughout — the same proven timber system we use across all our builds. The composite decking and railing sit on top of that engineered frame, combining the structural reliability of timber with the surface durability that composite systems deliver where wood alone would require constant attention.
"Composite doesn't mean compromise. The frame is still timber — engineered, specified, built right. The composite surface is what the board sees every day. That's where you want the 25-year material."
The 25-year material warranty on the composite system reflects what the product is designed for: public-use, high-traffic, coastal exposure — exactly the conditions Clearwater's waterfront delivers. The consistent finish resists fading, splintering, and the kind of surface degradation that makes traditional wood boardwalks a liability after a few Florida summers.
Completed in 2025, this is among the newest builds in our portfolio — and one of the clearest demonstrations of how composite and timber work together better than either does alone.
