Golf Course Bridge

Hidden Glen Golf Club

Island Green Bridge

The Project

One Hundred Feet, To an Island Green

Hidden Glen Golf Club's signature hole was defined by its island green — and by the timber bridge that carried players to it. After 25 years of Wisconsin winters, freeze-thaw cycles, and constant cart traffic, the original bridge had reached the end of its service life. The course needed a replacement that would honor the design of the hole, restore safe access, and last another generation.

Mark Winter visited the course during the early planning phase to walk the site with the club's leadership team. The water crossing measured 100 feet — long enough to require careful structural design, narrow enough that a single uninterrupted span would be the right approach. The brief from the agronomy team was clear: replace the bridge, but don't tear up the course doing it.

"After our initial conversation, Mark personally visited our course to review the project, discuss options, and clearly define objectives." — Garrett Luck, Director of Agronomy and Facilities

Construction sequenced the demolition of the original bridge and the installation of the new structure to keep equipment access tight, working from the shoreline rather than running heavy machinery across the fairway. The new bridge uses pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine throughout — primary beams, joists, and decking — selected for its strength, density, and proven outdoor performance in northern climates.

The finished structure is a clean, ornate pedestrian bridge that lengthens visually toward the green and reads as part of the course rather than a piece of infrastructure dropped into it. Members have called it one of the best aesthetic improvements the course has seen in decades.

Words from the Client

From the first site visit to the final product, we couldn't be more pleased with Mark Winter and the Timber Intentions team.
After our initial conversation explaining the scope of our 100-foot bridge to our island green, Mark personally visited our course to review the project, discuss options, and clearly define objectives. Once on site, the Timber Intentions crew worked flawlessly to remove the existing 25-year-old bridge and install the new one, taking great care to minimize any damage to the course.
The finished product far exceeded our expectations, delivering a sturdy and ornate bridge built with exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. We would be thrilled to work with Timber Intentions on any future projects.
